Want to learn guitar? If you think that you can download some guitar app and learn everything then there is disappointment waiting for you at the end of the street. Learning the guitar or any other musical instrument is a long journey. The best way of learning this instrument is joining guitar classes. An app or some free online tutorials cannot teach you guitar, not even the basics of guitar. You need guidance and motivation as well. Only a guitar teacher can guide you and keep you motivated while teaching guitar skills.

In addition to joining guitar classes, you will also need a guitar of your own to practice in the academy and at home. In case you are unable to figure which guitar is right for a beginner, we have a list for you. There are different types of guitars and not all types of guitars are for beginners. There are different techniques for playing a particular type of guitar. You cannot learn these techniques on your own. While your teacher will teach you these techniques, we will help you in buying the right type of guitar.

Different types of guitars for beginners

If this is going to be your first guitar, go for one of the following three:

  • Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
  • Steel String Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric guitar

Nylon String Acoustic Guitar

This guitar is also known as classical guitar. Many of the first time buyers buy nylon string acoustic guitars. Its price is also ideal for a beginner. It has a wide fret board. So, it can easily accommodate your fingers. The sound this guitar produces is a little dull. However, this is not a bad guitar for a beginner. Once you have gained the beginner’s level skills, you will need to buy a better guitar producing better sound. These guitars are pretty affordable. However, don’t go for the cheapest one.

Steel String Acoustic Guitar

Steel string acoustic guitar is simply known as an acoustic guitar. Its strings made from steel are brighter and lighter. This guitar is a versatile guitar. You can play jazz, rock, folk and a lot more. Sound quality is good but these strings are going to chew ends off the fingers of the guitarist. However, soon you will develop hard calluses. The traditional design of steel string acoustic guitar is also known as a dreadnought.  You need to pick a super high quality and an expensive instrument. Buy the one you can afford. As you can play many of the modern styles, this guitar is a joy to play.

Electric guitar

An electric guitar is the best guitar a beginner can buy. You will love to play and hear it. However, there is a drawback of this guitar. Your neighbors are not going to like it. You can use headphones. You will also need software having a decent audio interface. These guitars are a lot easier to play than nylon string acoustic guitar and steel string acoustic guitar. However, an electric guitar has a narrow fret board. So, you will need to have a higher level of skills for precise fingering.

If you still have some doubts, your teacher offering guitar lessons in Brooklyn will help you in buying your first guitar.
